Faculty Climate

The Office of Faculty Affairs conducts a climate survey every 3 to 5 years to assess faculty perceptions on the culture and climate in Health Sciences at UC San Diego. Surveys were conducted in 2005, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.

In response to the 2005 and 2011 surveys, several changes were implemented, including:

  1. Increased safety measures
  2. Additional faculty professional development workshops
  3. Additional leadership training
  4. Enhanced communication about governance and policies

The 2015 HS Faculty Climate Survey assessed the effectiveness of prior changes and highlighted additional issues to improve the climate for faculty, including:

  1. Research space distribution
  2. Salary allocation
  3. Supportive environment

In response to the 2019 Faculty Climate survey, the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences formed the Gender Equity Committee in March 2020.
