Mentoring Excellence Celebration

​Each fall, the Office of Faculty Affairs celebrates Health Sciences faculty who have demonstrated significant commitment to inclusive mentorship of junior faculty, residents, fellows, postdoctoral scholars and/or students -- particularly to mentees from groups underrepresented in academic medicine and the sciences. 

The Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award is presented to three individual faculty members who have demonstrated significant commitment to inclusive mentorship of junior faculty, residents, fellows, postdoctoral scholars and/or students — particularly to mentees from groups underrepresented in academic medicine and health sciences. Awardees are recognized at our annual Health Sciences Mentoring Excellence Celebration and receive $1,000 to support their mentorship activities.

In addition to individual faculty members, this year we are introducing the opportunity for a department or division to be honored for their inclusive mentoring excellence demonstrated by providing long-term support for the accomplishments and advancement of UC San Diego Health Sciences faculty. This award signifies the lasting impacts of robust mentorship efforts, such as successful training of effective and culturally responsive mentorship, essential career development programs, and a substantial number of FMTP-trained faculty within a department or division.

Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Awardees and the Department Chair, Division Chief, or Department/Division Mentor Director(s) (DMDs) will be honored at the 7th Annual Health Sciences Mentoring Excellence Celebration on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and must be able to attend the event.
