Research

Year 1:​

During the first year of training, fellows develop a research project with biomedical relevance and engage in a number of forums to enhance their scientific development, including attending a seminar series in their department and presenting a research talk to the IRACDA faculty directors and fellows annually. Fellows will present a research poster at the annual National IRACDA Conference and attend Ethical Challenges of Research and EPIC Bootcamp offered by the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars Affairs.


Year 2:​

 Fellows will continue to engage in research in year 2, are expected to start working on their first scientific research paper, and to present their research at a national scientific conference in their field or a seminar at an academic institution. Second year fellows will present a research talk to the IRACDA group and a research poster at the annual National IRACDA ​Conference. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in the IRACDA Grant Writing Course and Job Applications Workshop in Year 2 or 3. Fellows will also participate in the 2-day Academic Lab Management and Leadership Symposium in Year 2 or 3.

 

Year 3:
An SD IRACDA fellows looks into a microscope in the lab. During year 3, fellows will continue to engage in research, write and submit one or two papers on their scientific research, and attend a scientific conference in their field.​ Third year fellows will present a research talk to the IRACDA group and a research poster at the annual National IRACDA Conference. Fellows are expected to have participated in the IRACDA Grant Writing Course and Job Applications Workshop and to write and submit a fellowship or grant by the end of the 3rd year.
