Mentor Training Opportunities

Mentoring is a critical aspect of academic training and research progress, yet, it is often learned and perfected only through trial and error. These evidence-based trainings provide an intellectual framework to accelerate the acquisition of mentoring insights and cultivate effective mentee-mentor relationships.

The Health Sciences Office of Faculty Affairs provides faculty mentor trainings based off the curricula instructed at the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER).

Refresher | Understanding Generational Differences

Dr. Jean M. Twenge, professor of psychology at San Diego State University and renowned author of many best-selling books on generational differences, technology use, and mental health, will join us for this special session on understanding generational differences in academic medicine. Today’s students and trainees are nearly all Gen Z (born after 1995), a generation strikingly different from the Millennials just before them. Key generational differences relevant for medical and research training include trends in independence, social interaction, self-confidence, risk-taking, and attitudes toward work. Throughout this event, advice will be provided on guiding Gen Z to their full potential as learners, scientists, and health professionals.
